First Letter from Charles and his Dad

I am thoroughly impressed with the letters I’ve received from my 2 Filipino children so far. Each has included letters from a parent as well, which helps immensely in getting to know the child/family when the child is still young. I also adore how they let Charles answer the questions in his own words and didn’t change the answers to be accurate!

Adorable Charles is 4 and lives in the Philippines.

The letter uses the About Me template and Charles also got to help in filling it out himself! According to him, he is 97 inches tall, he has 0 siblings and is the 14th child, and the size of his feet is 4. What he does really well is dancing and his favorite part of his body is his hair. He is thin, and his other talent is singing. His message is simply “I love you” as indicated by a heart that he drew. I just love it!!!

Then came the letter from his dad, and my heart grew so much more… “Dear Ma’am Alisa, Hello there! Hope that you are all fine upon receiving my letter. This is Mr. Raymond C****** writing on behalf of my son Charles. Thank you so much for choosing my son as your beneficiary child, being a part of this ministry is a great blessing to our family. It is a big help for Charles’ holistic development. As of now Charles is busy attending DLA (Developmental Learning Activity) at Dorca Student Center every Saturday and he learned to using a Christian song and some verses from the Bible like like Genesis 1:1. Charles is the only one child of the family and his mother died last January 14, 2017 at the age of 29 years old due to myoma. At first I feel difficult to adjust for loosing my wife but how I accepted and understand that with God everything happens with a purpose and God has a greater plan for my family. Please continue to pray for Charles for God’s guidance and safety may he grow a God fearing and a good son. Charles’ hobbies are to play a toy car and watch cartoon movies. He is a shy type and developed his responsibilities to practice proper hygiene. He can wash his hands alone and brush his teeth, and as a father I am happy to see Charles’ development. He is a precious gift from Jesus. Once again thank you so much for being part of my family. You are in our prayers. May the Lord continue to bless you and your family. By the way Charles wants to know more about you. What makes you busy there? What is your job? Do you have your own family? How many children do you have? God Bless and thank you. Respectfully yours, Mr. Raymond C******, Father of Charles”

I was almost tearing up again typing this. To go through the loss of your wife at such a young age and to be left alone, in poverty, to care for your little boy is an unimaginable tragedy. But his faith comes through, and you can see how much he loves Charles and how much he is trying. I know that the Compassion center and church are taking good care of them. His dedication to bringing Charles to the center each week really touches me. I have a special place in my heart for families with single dads, due to experience of seeing family go through it and this man and his little boy have touched me greatly.
