Letter from Charles

I received such an amazing second letter from Charles and his dad!

Charles is 4 and lives in the Philippines

What I LOVE about both of Charles’ letters so far is that they let him answer at his level. So typing it would be an injustice in this case. Here is his letter:

And the letter from Charles’ dad is so wonderful. I just love this little family so much already!!

“Dear Ma’am Alisa, Good day! Hope you’re fine there. Once again I am Mr. Raymond writing on behalf of my son Charles. Thank you so much ma’am for the letters you’ve sent. We received two letters and we are so happy especially Charles to read and know about your duties and passion to teach little children. How amazing you are and for sure that your students there are also blessed and thankful for having you as their teacher. Just continue to do that job because it is the noblest profession and Charles is so proud having you as his sponsor. About your question if a lot of people get sick here, well more people also are getting sick, especially children, because of the weather. It is so hot here, but thanks to God that Charles is healthy now. He is doing good now and started to perform some action songs from the center and church even though he is a shy type of boy, but when playtime and singing time he did it great and gave his best. And good to know that you have favorite clothes and yellow is your favorite color. Charles also loves to wear especially the color blue shirt with the picture of a spider and his favorite cartoon character is Spiderman. He loves his family, friends, Jesus, and you too, Ms. Alisa. And about your question if you were God for one day what would you do? I got a little confused if this question is for me or for Charles. Well if you will ask me about that I will bring peace and share it to others even in small things, because for me when you share you care. And I also asked Charles that question and he answered he will make a Spiderman and spider and give it to children to have and play. It’s quite funny but he answered to his level as a little boy. In fact he really loves to play spider and take care of it. A spider that only can locate at the roof top of our house. Ma’am thank you also for the pictures, and Charles likes the snow, moons, and the pictures of your children and you too, ma’am. He said you are beautiful with your yellow jacket. By the way ma’am how old are you now? Charles wants to know you more, are you still single? Please continue to pray for my family here and Charles’ study, he will be enrolled in day care soon. May the Lord bless and guide him always. As we pray here for your safety always with your family blessings and with your work. God bless! Respectfully yours, Mr. Raymond”

First Letter from Charles and his Dad

I am thoroughly impressed with the letters I’ve received from my 2 Filipino children so far. Each has included letters from a parent as well, which helps immensely in getting to know the child/family when the child is still young. I also adore how they let Charles answer the questions in his own words and didn’t change the answers to be accurate!

Adorable Charles is 4 and lives in the Philippines.

The letter uses the About Me template and Charles also got to help in filling it out himself! According to him, he is 97 inches tall, he has 0 siblings and is the 14th child, and the size of his feet is 4. What he does really well is dancing and his favorite part of his body is his hair. He is thin, and his other talent is singing. His message is simply “I love you” as indicated by a heart that he drew. I just love it!!!

Then came the letter from his dad, and my heart grew so much more… “Dear Ma’am Alisa, Hello there! Hope that you are all fine upon receiving my letter. This is Mr. Raymond C****** writing on behalf of my son Charles. Thank you so much for choosing my son as your beneficiary child, being a part of this ministry is a great blessing to our family. It is a big help for Charles’ holistic development. As of now Charles is busy attending DLA (Developmental Learning Activity) at Dorca Student Center every Saturday and he learned to using a Christian song and some verses from the Bible like like Genesis 1:1. Charles is the only one child of the family and his mother died last January 14, 2017 at the age of 29 years old due to myoma. At first I feel difficult to adjust for loosing my wife but how I accepted and understand that with God everything happens with a purpose and God has a greater plan for my family. Please continue to pray for Charles for God’s guidance and safety may he grow a God fearing and a good son. Charles’ hobbies are to play a toy car and watch cartoon movies. He is a shy type and developed his responsibilities to practice proper hygiene. He can wash his hands alone and brush his teeth, and as a father I am happy to see Charles’ development. He is a precious gift from Jesus. Once again thank you so much for being part of my family. You are in our prayers. May the Lord continue to bless you and your family. By the way Charles wants to know more about you. What makes you busy there? What is your job? Do you have your own family? How many children do you have? God Bless and thank you. Respectfully yours, Mr. Raymond C******, Father of Charles”

I was almost tearing up again typing this. To go through the loss of your wife at such a young age and to be left alone, in poverty, to care for your little boy is an unimaginable tragedy. But his faith comes through, and you can see how much he loves Charles and how much he is trying. I know that the Compassion center and church are taking good care of them. His dedication to bringing Charles to the center each week really touches me. I have a special place in my heart for families with single dads, due to experience of seeing family go through it and this man and his little boy have touched me greatly.
