Photos and Letters from Deilin, and some sad news

The Manna 4 Lempira Mercedes summer updates were posted the evening before I left for Guatemala. I eagerly anticipated the photos of the final 2 of my Manna kids. I was very excited to see both of their photos. But then I received an email with some sad news. The email said that Deilin had left the program, and that I would be able to send a final letter to her. In the Manna group on Facebook, I saw that many other sponsors also lost children, most of which were teenage girls too. We found out more information, that these children were not meeting the school attendance requirements of the program, so they couldn’t be enrolled anymore. However, if at any point they do decide to attend school again, they can be reenrolled. I’ve absolutely loved my time sponsoring Deilin and getting to know her huge heart, so it’s very sad to have to say goodbye and end that relationship prematurely. I will continue to pray for her, of course, and hope that my final letter can offer some last words of encouragement to this girl who is beautiful on both the outside and the inside.

First letter (addressed to previous sponsor): “Hello! How are you? I hope that you and all your family are well. Thanks for my gift that you sent me. I really like the things; the purse, the books, and the colored pencils. I like it all. Thank you for always remembering me. I tell you that my sister Asly’s sponsor came here to the church where we meet. The pastor is Israel Portillo. I ask God that He allows me to meet you. God bless you! I love you very much! TKM- Te quiero mucho- I love you very much.”

Second letter: “Dear Alisa, I am happy for all the things you sent me in the backpack. I am very happy to have a beautiful sponsor like you, Alisa. You gave me many things, and I like all the things. For that I will never forget you. I hope you do not forget me. I am a smart, respectable, and honorable girl. I really like to come to church. I really like to draw. I hope you are happy all your life.”

Third letter: “Dear Alisa, Know that I give thanks to God that I have you as a sponsor. I ask God to keep you and bless each day. I live in Honduras, in the department of Lempira. My age is very beautiful because I have learned and enjoyed getting to know God. I am grateful with God for having you cross my path, and to be able to know a person as special as you. Also I have two brothers. I wish them the best. I love them very much. I thank you for the trust and friendship that you offer. I have always wanted to have a friend like you. My friends are Estrella, Beylin, Belkis, Lixi, Sulmy, and especially you. I really like the school. My favorite class is Math. I love to work with numbers and natural science. I would like to give classes of 3-4 years. I thank God for the backpack which has been very useful, and for the notebooks and everything else. Thank you. May God bless you! TKM- Te quiero mucho- I love you very much.”

Letter from Deilin

This letter is written to her last sponsor, as I  started sponsoring her after this letter was written. However, I was still able to send her backpack items and a letter last month, so I’m excited that she’ll get these soon. Her letter is beautiful, as is she!

Dear Sponsor, God bless your life and may God pour out blessings over your family. Well, I tell you that I have two siblings- a boy and a girl. My brother Arlin is 9 years old and my sister Marbell is 6 years old. My mother is 35 years old, but I tell you that in my house we do not have pets. I would like to have one. We do have a white horse that is very pretty. Well, I tell you that I like to play soccer with my friends. I like to go to the church a lot. My teacher is Maria. She teaches us a lot about Jesus. I like to pay a lot of attention to the lessons about Jesus. I feel very content to have a sponsor. Your name is very pretty. I don’t have a father because he died three years ago, but he is caring for me from heaven. He was a leader of the church. He preached and sang and he was a good father and I miss him very much. In school my favorite subject is natural Science. In it the teacher talks about the Human Body and plants. In Social Studies she talks about geography and countries. I am going to be praying for you that God will keep you safe today and always. God bless you. Many blessings for all your family. Attentively, Deilin

Introducing Deilin and Junior

Along with saying goodbye to some faces, I’ve also been saying hello to some new faces. I told myself that if I got the new job, I would sponsor another Manna 4 Lempira kid. I really love this organization and what they do in Honduras since I’ve been sponsoring Heidy and Brayan with them. When Kim posted on the Manna page about Deilin writing about the loss of her father and how she honors him in church, and I saw that she wants to be a teacher, which is what I do and why I wanted to sponsor another child, I felt an immediate connection. I feel so blessed that I’m able to offer some encouragement to this sweet and beautiful young lady. When I added Deilin, I also added a correspondent, Junior, who jumped out to me. There was something about his smile that pulled at my heart. Junior is from a big family with lots of kids in the home, and I can’t wait to encourage him and make sure he feels special. Deilin is 14 and Junior is 7.

So I’ve had 2 more new kids to shop for backpack items for! If you don’t sponsor with Manna 4 Lempira, we are able to send backpacks to our kids right now, filled with school supplies and other items, which will be delivered in the winter. I’ve had fun shopping and need to get all 4 of mine in the mail very soon!
