The family that runs Manna 4 Lempira just spent a week in Honduras visiting the children and distributing the backpacks that we sent. Each day, photos were posted of the kids, and I’d eagerly go in to look in the hopes of getting a glimpse of my kids. But they were never in any of the pictures posted. I couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed as others got to see multiple pictures of their sponsored kids. I know, though, that I will get official pictures once they are posted, and I still enjoyed seeing the pictures of the other happy kids, thinking that mine must be smiling too.
But then, at a moment where I really needed it, I got a message sent from Manna 4 Lempira, and it was a video from Jenny for me! Jenny is my most recently sponsored child through Manna 4 Lempira, and she is part of the new program that just opened: Quelacasque. During this visit, these children learned they had sponsored, got little bios on us with photos, and received their first backpacks and pair of shoes. Seeing Jenny’s smile and hearing her say my name means the world to me. I’m so grateful for this gift!!
When Deilin left the Manna 4 Lempira program, I knew that I wanted to add another girl. The team had just registered many new children when they were in Honduras last month that were going to be available for sponsorship last week, while I was in Guatemala. I was able to look through some of their profiles and videos before I left. I was drawn more to girls from Mercedes, because that’s where Deilin was from. There were many wonderful girls that I would have been lucky to sponsor. But I felt an immediate connection with Ludvi. After time and prayer, I still felt so pulled to her, and I couldn’t get her off of my mind. So the morning that these children were available, I used the wifi in my hotel room and shared my heart as why I felt called by God to Ludvi, asking to be considered to be her sponsor. I didn’t get to see any messages back until I arrived back at the hotel that evening and connected back to the wifi, but I knew it was in God’s hands. Apparently, many other sponsors were also interested in sponsoring Ludvi. I wasn’t surprised, due to her heartstring-pulling profile and sweet smile. But then I had another message, that stated that after prayerful consideration by Manna 4 Lempira, I was going to be Ludvi’s sponsor. I was so excited, especially being currently surrounded by poverty in Central America at that very moment, because I knew what an honor it was and one that I do not take lightly.
So, now I can officially introduce Ludvi as a new member of my family! She is 9 years old and has 9 siblings. They all have a single, unemployed mother. I found out that Ludvi has to walk very far to get to the church. Her favorite color is pink, and she loves playing with dolls. She wants to be a preacher when she grows up. Can you see why I want to shower this girl with love?
Maria had a video as well, as do all of the children through World Vision, and oh my goodness, it was definitely the reason I sponsored her. I was searching for children around the age of 5 to 6 from Mexico, because at the time that was the population of students I was working with, whose families came from Mexico, and on World Vision’s site, they show you one child at a time. I watched through the different videos, and each of them had the child standing next to or being held by their mother, while their mother talked. Then I saw Maria. She was the only one I saw in the video by herself and did all her own talking perfectly! I just loved that! I decided to keep looking, just in case, even though I already loved her. Well, when she popped up for the 3rd time as I clicked through the different kids, I sponsored her. She also has a video on her account from when she was younger, and it is just precious. Maria is the child I’ve received the most letters from by far, and I just love this little girl so much.
I mentioned before that I should post Angeles’ video, but I haven’t yet. This is the video that really made me fall in love with her, and know without a doubt she was mine. I loved getting to see her in a video along with a picture, and getting to know more about her through there than I wouldn’t have already known.
I mean how sweet is this little girl?? (click here).
I wish I could figure out a way to embed the videos here, but I’m not sure how. There also is a video for her center.
I love getting to see where she attends! (click here).
I still haven’t heard from Angeles aside from her intro letter since I started sponsoring her in November, so I’m really hoping to see that there’s a letter on the way from her soon!
